12-hour and 24-hour Races

Recently I did a 12hr TT and a 24hr race back to back on consecutive weekends ā€“ plus a 600k Audax in less than 24 hours the weekend before that. Most ā€˜normalā€™ people would say doing any of these events full stop would be mad enough, let alone doing them back to back. It isnā€™t something I would recommend or do regularly, but there is some reason to this madness. Butā€¦ it paid off with two big PBs and, more importantly, too big ticks in the ā€˜confidenceā€™ box on my journey to the LEJOG record attempt in September.Ā  Continue reading

Conquering Cramp Update

Earlier this year I wrote a blog post on ‘Conquering Cramp‘ in which I commented on my troubles with cramp, previous strategies, the results of aĀ sweat test and the personalised hydration planĀ I had received for using Precision Hydration, electrolytes that match how I sweat. Unfortunately DVT then got in the way. I have since used them for indoor turbo training, but this weekend I finally had a chance to test them in earnest at a long race. Continue reading
