4 weeks until LEJOG …

Thank you TrainingPeaks for showing me every day how much closer my second opportunity at breaking the Land’s End to John o’Groats record is getting! With just over 4 weeks to go until the first possible start date in early July, it is time for a brief update on how the preparations are going.

Rethinking Fuelling

After my first attempt at the LEJOG record abruptly came to a halt due to uncontrollable puking, it was obvious I had to go back to the drawing board for an overhaul of my nutrition strategy. After a few months of re-jigging and testing, I think we have found the answer. Nutrition is of course…

Training with DVT

“When can I resume my cycling training?” and “How soon can I race again?” were two of the key questions on my mind when I was first diagnosed with #DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) in June. I knew I was not going to get the answers I wanted, being Little Miss Impatient it was never going…

CONQUERING CRAMP

“Cramp?… Oh, you must have just overdone it”. “You are not fit enough”. “You should drink more”. “Have you tried chilli, tonic, mustard?” I have heard so many suggestions over the years, but I keep on struggling with cramp. After a somewhat disappointing ride during the National 50 last weekend (not that I did a particularly bad time, but there was…

Training in the Spanish sun

After a long radio silence over winter, it is time to pick this blog up again. What’s more, it’s time to get back into ‘race’ mode …

Endurance training: Newcastle upon Tyne to London

Last year I did LeMans24heuresvelo as a solo competitor. It was a great experience and I think it inspired two of my club mates to give it a shot as solo competitors this year. As part of their training they were planning a long non-stop ride from Newcastle-upon-Tyne back to London….

From whatever I felt like to coached training

In the past I have always trained by just doing whatever I felt like whenever, which was not necessarily the best approach. Although I am starting to learn more about training with power, I still predominantly ride on feel. But I now keep a much closer eye on my power meter and with the help…
